graceland too

A few weeks ago I went to a place that words fail to bring justice: Graceland Too.



I've waited a few weeks to see if I could find words to describe the adventure. There are none. It's the home of Paul McLeod, a man who when asked to choose between Elvis and his wife said "I choose Elvis." He's the universe's number 1 Elvis fan and has converted his home into a makeshift museum to all things Elvis.



Open 24 hours a day, you can tell the lifestyle has taken it's toll on Paul. He claims to drink a case of Coca-Cola a day and sleeps around 4 hrs a day. I'm not thorougly convinced that's the reason he's insane, though I'm sure it doesn't help. Paul isn't simply just crazy, he's actually it's kind of inspiring (in a weird 'Ripley's Believe It Or Not' sort of way.) The man's full of American ingenuity and passion.

Records were all over the wall, including a few he claimed to be priceless. There was a room filled with televisions that he uses to record programs about or mentioning Elvis 24 hrs a day(he keeps a logbook). Magazines with his picture and his house fill boxes upon boxes. He has random notes scattered all over from people like Nicholas Cage and Ashton Kutcher. He sings songs during the tour (His rendition of "All Shook Up" will melt your heart). He named his son Elvis. He even had a gold jumpsuit hanging up that he says he'll be buried in when he dies.

It was beautiful. If you get the chance - drive to Holly Springs and meet Paul. For better or worse, I promise you'll never forget it. My current mission? Turn my home into Graceland Three, a monument to Paul.
